E-BABE: Grading the level of evidence in 38% silver diamine fluoride for caries prevention

Objective: This evidence based review grades the level of evidence available for use of Silver Diamine fluoride for routine clinical use in pediatric, adult and older age group when compared to conventional fluoridating agents for preventing caries. 


Materials and methods: The methodology followed for the review is based on the steps in evidence based clinical practice to create the problem to a question, search, critically appraise and grade the evidence. The literature will be searched in Pubmed, embase, and Cochrane library along with WHO clinical trial registry. Based on the inclusion criteria all clinical studies on SDF in arresting or preventing caries (observational and Experimental study designs), Systematic review will be included and invitro studies will be excluded. Prefixed Mesh terms will be used to search the literature using Bullion search. The article will be categorized according to pediatric population, adult population and elderly population. 


Results: All included studies will be categorized according to pediatric population, adult population and elderly population comparing SDF and other conventional measures. The included studies will be graded according ADA evidence based pyramid. 


Conclusion: The results of review will be graded and presented as low, medium and high quality, need for future research, a preliminary scoping review concluded that the results favor SDF in elderly and children’s with special care needs.
